Responding for results

Your reactions determine your success

How do you feel when:

  • There there is a crisis and people around you are panicking
  • You have to meet someone important to your business goals and want to make a positive impression
  • Faced with a difficult situation, for example an argument, negotiation or dispute
  • You stand up in front of a group of people to make an important presentation

Your response in any of these situations is critical to a successful outcome.

There are lots of courses and workshops that teach you presentation skills, conflict management techniques and any other skill that could be applied in these contexts.

However, they miss the most crucial piece.

Your automatic reaction.

When the level of your automatic emotional reaction is too intense, it affects everything afterwards: your behaviour, communication, your non-verbal responses, the way you are perceived by other people and other element of the subsequent interactions.

John is an experienced senior manager who is exceedingly hard working and skilful. However, when faced with conflict he falls apart. When an angry customer confronts him he immediately reacts defensively and as a result escalates the situation. The customer is left upset and business is lost.

Through learning how to manage the level of his reaction and subsequent response with Responding For Results, he now doesn’t dread the inevitable situations where conflict arises at work and can manage them effectively.

The Problem With Reactions

No matter how great your communication skills, negotiation skills or other techniques you might have learned, the immediate response you experience in your body can override your ability to get the results you want.

That response could be:

  • Anxiety
  • Anger
  • Irritation
  • Fear
  • Nervousness
  • Confusion
  • Feeling tongue tied
  • Panic
  • Or many other unwanted feelings and thoughts

Experiencing these emotions is completely normal. However, when the intensity is too strong, it overrides your ability to respond effectively.

Michelle had recently been promoted to a role that involved a considerable amount of presenting to small and large groups. She had been on several presentation skills workshops, however whenever she stood up to present, she experienced an overwhelming feeling of anxiety. Even though the presentations went quite well, she was left feeling exhausted and upset with herself for not using all the skills she learned from the presentation skills trainings. Under the pressure of the events, she’d forget everything.

After attending the training and coaching in Responding For Results, she learned how to manage the initial reaction and response, allowing her to even enjoy presenting and be free to engage with groups using the skills she had learned.

What makes this course so unique and essential?

In any situation you find challenging, your body goes into a fight, flight or freeze response.

When this happens, the part of your brain that has the skills to manage the situation effectively starts to shut down.

When the level of your reaction is too intense, any attempt to influence your response becomes challenging, if not impossible.

Leaving you unable to perform the way you want to.

But you can learn to change the intensity of your reaction.

Although reactions are completely normal, if you react overly intensely this has been learned through experience.

You can re-learn this level of reaction.

Then you can learn how to respond more effectively. When you do, you can achieve the level of high performance you deserve.

That’s why I put together this unique programme that helps you learn to transform your response and get the results you want.

The Solution

For over 25 years I’ve been working with companies and individuals helping them overcome challenges and perform at levels of excellence. As a psychologist, senior lecturer in counselling and coaching, coach and psychotherapist, the fundamental issue that people struggle with is when the body ‘kicks in’ with the almost automatic emotional reaction.

It is this reaction that doesn’t get addressed by traditional training.

You can learn to transform your response and when you do, you can reach high performance states and behavioural flexibility.
